empty pockets

it’s important not to
attach too much importance
to individual items of clothing…
…having said that
i felt so let down by this jacket
so much promise
so little value
sprouting holes after only a year
(if that)
and i tried to put it away
but you know how it is
you find yourself suddenly awake
on the morning tram
and you’re wearing it again
only one pocket usable
enough room for essentials
ipod and headphones
to keep me in this waking dream.
